Vijaya Dashami, a festival celebrating the triumph of good over evil, was marked with vibrant festivities in Bangladesh, particularly at Cox’s Bazar. The coastal city witnessed a large gathering as devotees participated in the immersion of Durga idols, a key ritual of the Sharadiya Durga Utsav.
The beach area transformed into a bustling hub, thronged by thousands of people. The main idol immersion ceremony commenced on Thursday afternoon, featuring a Vijaya conference held at the District Administration’s open stage at Laboni Point.
Idols, carried on trucks from various pandals across seven blocks of Cox’s Bazar district, arrived at the beach, drawing a massive turnout. To ensure a safe and orderly event, stringent security measures were put in place.
Bangladesh, home to a significant Hindu population, observes Vijaya Dashami with great joy. The majority of Hindus in the country belong to the Bengali community, and the festival is an occasion of widespread celebration.
According to Uday Shankar Pal Mithu, Executive President of the District Puja Udghavan Parishad, the idol immersion commenced in the sea with the chanting of mantras at 5 pm. He acknowledged the administration’s support in organizing the grand event, which saw Hindus from distant places converging on Cox’s Bazar.
The government had organized robust security arrangements for the ceremony, including intensified patrolling by the army, BGB, police, and RAB in the beach area. Furthermore, RG control rooms were established. Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan emphasized the collaborative efforts of the district administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure the success of the idol immersion ceremony through strengthened three-tier security measures.
