Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence announced that it had detected 12 Chinese military aircraft and seven naval vessels operating near the island as of 6:00 AM on Thursday. Notably, 10 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). Taiwan’s armed forces responded to these actions by deploying aircraft, naval ships, and coastal missile systems to observe the situation. President Lai Ching-te has previously addressed the ongoing threat of Chinese influence warfare and military pressure, framing it as part of China’s broader goals in the region. He stressed that these challenges would remain irrespective of changes in Taiwan’s leadership. In his speech at the DPP’s national congress, Lai also spoke about domestic political challenges and the need to protect Taiwan’s democracy.
