US Federal agents engaged in gunfire with a woman in Chicago on Sunday following a vehicle ramming incident targeting a law enforcement vehicle. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) verified the event, which unfolded during a standard patrol in Broadview. The DHS reported that law enforcement personnel were rammed and surrounded by a convoy of ten vehicles. This comes at a time of heightened anti-ICE demonstrations and the Trump administration’s intensified efforts to curb unrest in cities under Democratic leadership.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, shared details about the event via an X post. She revealed that a minimum of ten vehicles were used to ram and encircle officers during the confrontation. McLaughlin stated that one of the individuals driving the vehicles who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon. Law enforcement officers were forced to use their weapons in self-defense, firing shots at a female US citizen who was armed during the encounter.
McLaughlin elaborated that during a standard patrol in Broadview, in the same area as the previous day’s assault on law enforcement, the officers were rammed and surrounded by numerous vehicles. Agents found themselves unable to move their vehicles and were forced to exit. One of the drivers was armed with a semi-automatic weapon. Law enforcement responded by deploying their weapons in self-defense. The woman then drove herself to the hospital for medical care.
She also mentioned that the woman had been identified in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intelligence bulletin the previous week for allegedly sharing agents’ personal information and posting online, ‘Hey to all my gang let’s fuck those mother fuckers up, don’t let them take anyone.’ She confirmed that no officers sustained serious injuries in the attack. The post also stated that Pritzker’s Chicago Police Department is not assisting in securing the area, and special operations teams are being deployed to control the situation.
