A severe weather crisis is unfolding in Vietnam as torrential rains have unleashed widespread flooding and landslides, resulting in at least 41 deaths. The disaster has submerged more than 52,000 homes, forcing a mass evacuation of nearly 62,000 people. Rescue teams are working tirelessly in affected provinces, trying to reach survivors trapped by rising waters. The intensity of the rainfall over the past three days has been extreme, with some locations recording over 150 cm of precipitation. This deluge has cut off key transportation routes due to landslides and left approximately one million households in darkness without power. Vietnam’s Environment Ministry confirmed the grim death toll across six provinces and is actively searching for nine missing persons. Forecasts indicate Typhoon Kalmaegi is set to make landfall soon, exacerbating the situation with predictions of continued heavy downpours, especially in the central coastal region and Central Highlands. Coastal areas are anticipating a rise in water levels, adding to the existing flood emergency.
