In response to allegations of anti-Jewish attacks, Australia has expelled the Iranian ambassador. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declared that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will be designated as a terrorist organization. The accusations involve Iranian involvement in plots targeting the Jewish community in Sydney and Melbourne.
Albanese stated that the Iranian government was behind attacks on the Louis Continental Kitchen in Sydney on October 20, last year, and the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne on December 6, based on intelligence. He characterized these attacks as attempts to damage social unity and create division in Australia.
The move comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Albanese of betraying Israel and neglecting the Australian Jewish community. Netanyahu had remarked on August 26 that Albanese’s legacy would be that of a weak leader.
