WhatsApp is constantly introducing new features to elevate user experience. The company is currently testing a new update, Motion Photo, for Android users. This feature was discovered in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.22.29, as reported by WABetaInfo, and is presently accessible to a limited number of beta testers.
The Motion Photo feature captures moments before and after a picture is taken, incorporating both movement and audio. Smartphones such as those by Samsung (Motion Photos) and Google Pixel (Top Shot) already offer similar functionalities.
When a user selects an image from their gallery, a new icon will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. This icon includes a play button encircled by a ring and a small circle. Tapping this icon allows users to send the photo as a Motion Photo, which will display movement and include the original sound.
For sending Motion Photos via WhatsApp, the user’s smartphone must have the Motion Photo capability. Even if a phone lacks the ability to capture Motion Photos, it can still view Motion Photos received from others.
Besides Motion Photos, WhatsApp is developing another important feature, allowing users to share their usernames instead of phone numbers. This will enhance chat security and improve privacy.
In conclusion, WhatsApp’s Motion Photo feature is set to make photo sharing more engaging and aid in preserving memories vividly, while the username feature offers a new, secure way for users to share their identities.
