Meta is set to introduce a new line of smart glasses in collaboration with Oakley. An Instagram account, ‘Oakley | Meta,’ revealed a product launch scheduled for June 20th. This follows Meta’s successful partnership with Ray-Ban in the smart glasses sector.
Unlike the casual Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, the Oakley version is designed for outdoor and sports activities. These glasses will include a central action-style camera for recording during sports and other activities. This design emphasizes a more practical and activity-focused approach.
Meta’s previous smart glasses launch with Ray-Ban has seen considerable success, with over 2 million units sold to date. The company is targeting an annual production of 10 million units by the end of 2026. The growing demand for AI-powered wearables has contributed to this success, which Meta is capitalizing on with Oakley.
Google is also expanding into the smart glasses market, announcing collaborations with fashion brands such as Warby Parker, Gentle Monster, and Kering Eyewear. These glasses will run on the Android XR platform. Apple is also planning to release its own smart glasses.
Apple is reportedly aiming to launch its first smart glasses by the end of 2026. The company will begin large-scale prototype production later this year, managed by the Vision Products Group. The anticipated features include real-time translation, Siri voice control, scene recognition, and turn-by-turn navigation. These glasses are also expected to have integrated cameras, microphones, and speakers, potentially offering more advanced features than what Meta currently provides.
