Reliance Jio’s latest offering, JioPC, is a cloud-based virtual desktop service designed to convert any TV into a computer. This innovative service leverages the Jio Set-Top Box connected to JioFiber, eliminating the need for a traditional CPU. Users can purchase the service separately.
With JioPC, connecting a keyboard and mouse to your TV creates a fully functional virtual computer. The system operates on the Ubuntu (Linux) operating system, hosted entirely in the cloud. Users can use it for web browsing, online education, coding, and document editing. However, external devices like webcams and printers are not yet supported.
The service offers flexible payment options. The monthly plan is priced at ₹599 + GST. A three-month plan provides a one-month bonus, totaling four months of access for ₹1,499. The annual plan extends the service by three months, offering 15 months of use for ₹4,599.
The virtual machine includes 4 CPUs, 8GB RAM, and 100GB of cloud storage. It comes pre-loaded with software like LibreOffice, and Microsoft Office is accessible via a web browser. Users also receive a one-month free trial, which includes Jio Workspace, 512GB extra cloud storage and access to Adobe Express, ideal for graphic design and content creation.
Setup is straightforward: power on your Jio Set-Top Box, open the JioPC app from the Apps section, and register with your mobile number. After logging in, your cloud desktop is ready to use. A reliable internet connection is essential for seamless performance, as all processing occurs on Jio’s cloud infrastructure.
