Researchers in China have introduced an innovative “all-frequency” 6G chip, setting the stage for mobile internet speeds exceeding 100 Gbps. The chip was developed jointly by scientists from Peking University and the City University of Hong Kong. A key feature of the chip is its ability to operate across a wide frequency range, from 0.5 GHz to 115 GHz, dynamically adjusting between frequencies to maintain a consistent, high-quality connection. This wide frequency range offers significant benefits, including high throughput and ultra-low latency via high frequencies, which is vital for applications like virtual reality and telemedicine. Lower frequencies ensure extensive coverage, essential for reliable service delivery to less populated areas. Testing revealed that the 6G chip maintained stable connections across its full frequency spectrum. During trials, it achieved data transmission rates surpassing 100 Gbps on a single channel. Its integrated “frequency navigation” system allowed it to automatically switch to available channels, thus avoiding interference. The current chip is 11 × 1.7 mm in size. The research team’s future goal is to miniaturize this technology into USB flash drive-sized communication modules, potentially leading to faster development of adaptable and intelligent 6G networks. With improving trade relations, India and China might share their new technological advancements in the future, leading to the shared architecture of the 6G chip.
