Foxconn is expanding its manufacturing operations in India by starting to produce iPhone casings within the country. The company is building a dedicated facility in the ESR industrial park in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, to manufacture metal enclosures for iPhones. This expansion marks a notable advancement for Foxconn within Apple’s Indian supply chain, transitioning from solely assembling devices.
This move aligns with Foxconn’s strategy to broaden its domestic capabilities and lessen its reliance on China amid global trade shifts. Although the financial impact of iPhone casing production on total value might be modest, this incorporation within India highlights Apple’s growing dependence on the country. The new facility is currently under construction and will be adjacent to an existing Foxconn plant that is assembling iPhone display modules.
