The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is scrutinizing the withdrawal of 1GB mobile data plans. The DoT has raised concerns over major telecom companies discontinuing their most inexpensive data plans and concurrently increasing prices. The DoT has instructed TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) to investigate this situation and issue a report.
Telecom operators explained the 1GB data plans were discontinued after an analysis of consumer behavior. One provider mentioned the removal was due to market factors, noting that some of the discontinued plans are still available in physical stores. Another provider discontinued its ₹249 plan, stating that this was a strategic move to provide greater value, based on market analysis. Here’s a comparison of accessible and affordable plans:
Jio’s ₹1,799 plan lasts 84 days and includes 3GB of daily data. All plans with 2GB or more data daily include unlimited 5G data. The pack also provides 100 daily SMS, unlimited calling across networks, Netflix Basic, and access to JioTV. In celebration of Jio’s 9th anniversary, users also get a 2-month Jio Home trial and an additional 2% on Jio Gold.
Vodafone Idea’s ₹1,749 plan offers 1.5GB daily data, with an additional 30GB of extra data valid for 45 days, exceeding the daily data limit. The plan includes 100 daily SMS and 100 more validity days than Jio’s plan. Users also enjoy ‘Binge All Night’ and weekend data rollover features. Vi’s plans do not provide any complimentary OTT subscriptions, unlike Jio.
