The Indian government’s Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, has been cleared by the Lok Sabha, representing a crucial development for the nation’s online gaming industry. The Bill seeks to establish a regulated environment, promoting certain types of gaming while restricting others.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the bill, which has two primary goals: to support the growth of e-sports and educational gaming, and to ban real-money online gaming. This ban encompasses all RMG, irrespective of whether the games rely on skill or luck.
The legislation is poised to reshape the digital entertainment sector in India, affecting gaming platforms, payment systems, advertising, influencers, and the end-users.
