BSNL is now offering eSIM services, allowing users to enjoy calls and internet access without a physical SIM. This initiative puts pressure on existing private telecom providers like Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), who previously dominated the eSIM market. The launch of eSIM is part of BSNL’s strategy to enhance user experience and compete effectively with private sector players.
To facilitate its eSIM service, BSNL has collaborated with Tata Communications. The MOVE platform from Tata Communications will handle eSIM subscription management, enabling BSNL to efficiently provide eSIMs to its vast customer base. This move underscores BSNL’s commitment to improving mobile connectivity for its users.
BSNL’s eSIM is compatible with 2G, 3G, and 4G networks, making it accessible to a wide range of users with eSIM-enabled devices. A. Robert Ravi, Managing Director and Chairman of BSNL, highlighted the significance of the pan-India eSIM service, emphasizing its role in advancing telecom capabilities.
Having recently launched 4G services using a network of 98,000 towers, BSNL is now setting its sights on 5G. Reports suggest that BSNL plans to roll out 5G services by the end of 2025, with initial launches expected in Delhi and Mumbai.
