The rise of AI is causing job displacement across multiple sectors, transforming the employment landscape. A recent study from Stanford, analyzing payroll data from ADP, highlights the adverse effects of AI, specifically on younger employees. The research suggests that generative AI tools are having a significant impact on entry-level positions in coding and other tech fields.
The study, conducted by economists Erik Brynjolfsson, Ruyu Chen, and Bharat Chandar, examined payroll data between late 2022 (when ChatGPT was launched) and mid-2025. The findings indicate a decline in job opportunities for employees aged 22-25 in industries like software development and customer service, despite overall robust employment figures in the United States.
