The survey indicates that by 2030, air conditioners are poised to become the leading emitters of greenhouse gases. Conducted across 3,100 households in seven cities, the survey’s findings highlight that 40% of homes require AC gas refills annually. In 2024, emissions from refrigerant refills amounted to 50 million tons of carbon dioxide.
Approximately 32 million kilograms (32,000 tons) of refrigerant (AC gas) were refilled in 2024. Considering the increasing demand for ACs, this figure is expected to reach 125,000 tons by 2035.
