The ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 has delivered an unforgettable triumph for India, and at its heart is the inspiring story of fast bowler Kranti Gaud. Her exceptional performance not only secured a historic victory for the nation but also brought a long-awaited sense of justice to her family. Kranti’s father, Munna Singh Gaud, was dismissed from the Madhya Pradesh police force under controversial circumstances in 2012, a devastating event that led to years of financial hardship.
Now, more than a decade later, Kranti’s powerful presence on the world cricket stage has brought about a remarkable turnaround. During a special event in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav officially announced the reinstatement of Munna Singh Gaud. The Chief Minister lauded this decision as a “rightful restoration of dignity” for a family that has faced adversity with immense strength and perseverance.
“Kranti’s achievement brings immense pride to the entire nation, and it is only fitting that her father’s honor is rightfully restored,” CM Yadav remarked during the ceremony held at his residence. This announcement underscores the significant impact Kranti’s success has had beyond the cricket field.
Kranti Gaud’s journey to the pinnacle of women’s cricket is a testament to her unwavering spirit and profound sacrifices. Hailing from Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, the Gaud family endured severe financial struggles following her father’s dismissal. Kranti herself recounted the difficult times, stating, “There were days when we could afford only one meal a day.” This challenging upbringing instilled in her a powerful drive.
Driven by her passion for fast bowling, Kranti tirelessly worked her way up through the domestic ranks. Her impressive performances earned her a place in the national squad just before the World Cup commenced. Her narrative of overcoming adversity struck a chord with millions, symbolizing the power of resilience and dedication.
Kranti Gaud proved to be a vital asset for India’s bowling attack throughout the World Cup. Her potent combination of speed, accuracy, and an aggressive mindset marked her as one of the tournament’s standout players. She claimed nine wickets in eight matches, demonstrating her skill in high-pressure situations. Her exceptional spell of 3/20 against Pakistan was a highlight, while she also played a crucial role in the victory against New Zealand with two key wickets. Her game-changing dismissal of Alyssa Healy in the semifinal against Australia was instrumental in setting India on the path to victory.
Upon her triumphant return, Kranti Gaud was celebrated as a hero in Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, along with Sports Minister Vishwas Sarang, honored Kranti, her parents, and her coach at an elaborate event. The Chief Minister also announced a ₹1 crore reward and pledged to build a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Chhatarpur to cultivate young talent. An additional grand event is scheduled for November 15 in Jabalpur, coinciding with Tribal Pride Day, to further celebrate Kranti’s extraordinary achievements.
