Pakistan faced a humiliating defeat in the third and final ODI against the West Indies, leading to a series loss. The West Indies, captained by Shai Hope, secured the series victory with a 2-1 scoreline. This triumph by the Caribbean team signified the breaking of a 34-year-old record. In other words, under Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy, Pakistan experienced a series loss against the West Indies, a scenario unseen since 1991.
The West Indies, batting first in the third ODI, scored 294 runs for 6 wickets in their 50 overs. Shai Hope, the captain, played a significant role in setting this impressive total, leading his team with his batting prowess. Hope scored a century, his 18th in ODI cricket and his second against Pakistan. He remained unbeaten with 120 runs from just 94 balls, including 10 fours and 5 sixes. Due to Hope’s explosive batting, the West Indies added 109 runs in the last 8 overs without losing a wicket, after having scored 185 runs for 6 wickets after 42 overs.
Chasing a target of 295 runs to win the series, Pakistan found themselves struggling. The entire Pakistani team failed to reach even 100 runs, getting all out for 92 in the third ODI. The West Indies won the match by 202 runs, recording their largest victory against Pakistan in terms of runs. This surpassed their earlier record of a 150-run win in a 2015 ODI held in Christchurch.
This marks the fourth time in ODI history that the West Indies has won with a margin of 200 or more runs. While Captain Shai Hope excelled with the bat, Jayden Seales dominated with the ball, dismantling the Pakistani side. He took 6 wickets for 18 runs in 7.2 overs, achieving his career-best performance.
The West Indies not only won the third ODI but also the series. This resulted in the end of Pakistan’s 34-year record of not losing an ODI series to the West Indies under Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy. The West Indies has won an ODI series against Pakistan for the first time since 1991. This is also their first series win against Pakistan in any format since the year 2000.
