In a move that could affect the sport’s development in the country, the ICC has suspended USA Cricket’s membership. This action comes before the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, where cricket is set to be a part of the Games. The decision was made after a comprehensive assessment of USA Cricket’s performance over the past year. The ICC found that USA Cricket had repeatedly failed to meet its obligations as outlined in the ICC constitution. The governing body highlighted the absence of a sound governance framework and the lack of progress in obtaining recognition as a National Governing Body with the USOPC as major concerns. The ICC also noted that USA Cricket’s conduct has negatively affected the sport’s image both within the United States and abroad. The ICC emphasized the importance of protecting the interests of cricketers in the USA and supporting a High-performance & Player development program. The suspension will not prevent the USA’s national teams from participating in ICC events and preparing for the upcoming Olympics. A Normalisation Committee, supported by ICC management, will be established to implement reforms. These reforms will address governance, administration, and operational aspects of USA Cricket.
