Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has strongly criticized the prevailing workload management theory in cricket, using Mohammed Siraj as a prime example. Siraj’s outstanding performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where he played all five Tests and bowled the most overs, demonstrated his commitment and debunked the workload myth. Gavaskar believes that players should prioritize representing their country and should set aside minor physical discomforts. He drew parallels to the sacrifices made by soldiers and cited the example of Rishabh Pant playing with a fracture. Gavaskar’s message to the head coach was that workload management should not be a major consideration when players are representing their country. He also acknowledged that while workload management might be necessary in overseas series, it was not applicable to Jasprit Bumrah, who was out due to injury.
