Following a disappointing batting performance that handed South Africa a commanding lead in the second Test, Washington Sundar urged his teammates to remain positive. India was bundled out for just 201, trailing the Proteas by a massive 314 runs, leaving the team in a difficult spot. Sundar, who top-scored for India with a resilient 48 from the number eight position, acknowledged the team’s execution fell short. ‘We just have to stay positive in life,’ Sundar stated, reflecting on the team’s tough third day.
He also addressed the aggressive approach taken by some batters, including Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel, which led to their dismissals. Sundar believes that judging these players solely on the outcome is unfair. ‘That’s how it is,’ he explained. ‘Sometimes you just have to back their plans and their skill sets… Obviously, execution didn’t go the way we wanted.’ He added that he’s happy to bat anywhere for the team, viewing it as an exciting aspect of a team game driven by strategy and tactics.
