Following their retirement from Test cricket this year, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma expressed their desire to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, this hinges on their fitness. Reports suggest that an official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indicated that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might be seen playing for the last time in the three-match ODI series in Australia. The BCCI aims to give opportunities to young players in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Reports further suggest that if these two players wish to continue playing after the Australia tour, they may need to participate in the domestic Vijay Hazare Trophy in December, representing their state teams. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had a poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. They then played in the Ranji Trophy, but were unsuccessful there as well, leading to their retirement from Test cricket.
