Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked player, launched his Cincinnati Open bid with a dominant performance, defeating Daniel Elahi Galan with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in under an hour. The Italian’s swift victory, completed in 59 minutes, underscored his determination to claim the title.
Making his return to the court after his triumph over Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon, Sinner exhibited impressive form on the hard courts. Demonstrating no signs of slowing down, he seamlessly adapted from grass to hard court, utilizing precise ball-striking and aggressive baseline play.
Sinner’s dominance was evident from the start, as he quickly established a 5-0 lead in the first set, putting immense pressure on Galan, who is ranked No. 144 globally. The 23-year-old carried his momentum into the second set, securing a break and finishing with three aces, thereby achieving the fastest victory of his ATP Tour career.
In his post-match interview, Sinner reflected on the match, acknowledging the difficulty of playing in Cincinnati while highlighting his success. He expressed, “I didn’t know what to expect. I am happy because it’s not easy to play here. The ball is flying, and you have to serve very precisely if you want to go far in the tournament.”
This victory also extended Sinner’s winning streak on hard courts to 22 matches, starting from his loss to Alcaraz in the Beijing final last September. Since securing the Cincinnati title in 2024, Sinner has maintained a remarkable 48-2 record in major events, marking him as a top contender.
Looking ahead, Sinner will advance to the round of 32, where he will face Gabriel Diallo of Canada, as he continues his quest to defend his title.
