Following Afghanistan’s defeat in the UAE tri-series final against Pakistan, where they were bundled out for 66 runs, the team’s batting performance came under scrutiny. Irfan Pathan, among others, voiced concerns about the team’s batting lineup. Prior to the Asia Cup match against Hong Kong, Pathan tweeted, expressing his belief that Afghanistan was playing with one less batsman and needed to strengthen their batting in the long run. However, batsmen Sediqullah Atal and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai proved him wrong with their exceptional performance. Atal and Omarzai played magnificent innings, with Atal scoring an unbeaten 73 off 52 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes. Omarzai contributed a quickfire 53 off 21 balls, featuring 2 fours and 5 sixes. Afghanistan eventually posted a total of 188 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs, while Hong Kong managed only 94 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.
