Rohit Sharma, the Indian opening batsman, is keen to make his comeback to international cricket and is putting in strenuous efforts on the field. He successfully cleared the Yo-Yo test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru last week. Alongside him, several other players, including Shubman Gill, participated in the test. Following the Yo-Yo test, Rohit Sharma was expected to undergo the Bronco test, but this did not materialize. A significant reason for this has come to light. The Bronco test was introduced by Team India’s Strength and Conditioning Coach, Adrian Le Roux. However, the test is yet to be initiated.
On August 31st, reports suggest that Rohit Sharma, along with other players, undertook the Yo-Yo test. Sharma passed the test, thereby demonstrating his fitness. The Bronco test was scheduled to follow, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet implemented this test. Consequently, Rohit Sharma did not participate in the Bronco test.
According to TOI reports, the Bronco test might take place in Dubai before the Asia Cup. The Indian team is set to leave for Dubai on the morning of September 4th, and their first session at the ICC Academy is scheduled for September 5th. Therefore, if the BCCI intends to conduct the Bronco test, it could be held in Dubai, though this is not confirmed. As a result, Rohit Sharma did not take the Bronco test.
Rohit Sharma, who has retired from both T20I and Test cricket, has been absent from international cricket for a considerable period. His last international appearance was on March 9th in the Champions Trophy final, where India defeated New Zealand to clinch the title. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been away from international cricket since then.
There is a possibility of these two players returning to the team for the three-match ODI series in Australia next month. Both are diligently training on the field. Rohit Sharma had previously expressed his interest in playing the ODI series against Australia-A during their India tour.
