Rishabh Pant is demonstrating the form of his earlier career. After a scintillating Test century, Pant has equaled former India captain MS Dhoni in the number of Test centuries scored by an Indian wicket-keeper batter. This was Rishabh Pant’s seventh Test century, and his fourth against England. Pant took a crucial catch on Day 3 of the first Test, earning his place in the list of Indian wicketkeeper-batters with 150 Test catches.
Pant joins the ranks of MS Dhoni and Syed Kirmani. It took Pant 44 matches to reach 150 catches, whereas Dhoni has 256 catches in 90 matches, and Kirmani has 160 catches in 88 games. Pant has surpassed MS Dhoni in Leeds Test, achieving his seventh century in the first Test. Pant hit a six on the first ball of the 100th over of the first India innings. This was his first century since September 2024.
Dhoni scored 4,876 runs with 6 tons and 33 fifties in 90 Tests at an average of 38.09. Pant scored 134 in 134 balls (12-4; 6-6), and 3000 runs in this inning with 15 fifties in 44 Tests. The third in this list has two centuries of Wriddhiman Saha, and then there are two other wickets in Syed Kirmani and Farokh Engineer. One century has also been scored by Nayan Mongia.
Pant scored an entertaining 134 off 178 balls during India’s raid of 471 runs against England. On Day 2 in the innings of England, Jasprit Bumrah (3/48) helped India to finish the day on a high. Harry Brook reached his 12th Test half century on day 3.
