The Rajasthan Royals are experiencing a period of significant instability, with a string of unexpected exits and ongoing speculation about key players. The recent departure of head coach Rahul Dravid has been followed by the exit of another important figure from the franchise’s management. Compounding these issues is the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the team’s captain, Sanju Samson, generating considerable discussion.
Talk regarding Samson started earlier this year, with reports suggesting he had asked the franchise to release him or explore potential trade opportunities before the mini-auction. Although the Chennai Super Kings were reportedly interested, no deal progressed. This speculation intensified as news broke of Dravid’s departure.
This follows the previous departure of the team’s marketing head, Dwijendra Parashar, at the end of last season. The latest to leave is CEO Jake Lush McCrum, who has informed his colleagues in the IPL of his decision. McCrum began his journey with the Royals in a junior position and climbed the ranks, becoming CEO in 2021 at the age of 28. He is scheduled to leave by October. His future was the subject of speculation after he was absent from the Paarl Royals’ table during the SA20 auction, where Kumar Sangakkara took his place. It is also believed Sangakkara may become the team’s head coach next season.
These departures, combined with the unresolved situation surrounding Samson, have sparked questions about the Royals’ internal cohesion. Recent reports indicate that these issues stem from a performance review conducted in July after a poor 2025 season, in which the team secured only four wins in 14 matches and finished ninth. These reports suggest that franchise owner Manoj Badale has increased his control over operations, moving the team’s leadership base to London.
