Five years ago, on August 15, 2020, at 7:29 PM, Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket. He posted a video on his Instagram page featuring the song “Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon…”. Dhoni captioned the video, thanking everyone for their love and support, and indicating that he was retired from that time onward.
Dhoni played his last international match in 2019 during the ODI World Cup against New Zealand. India lost the semi-final by 18 runs. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won three ICC titles: the 2007 T20I World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Dhoni is currently playing in the Indian Premier League.
