South Africa’s cricket team has been hit by another injury blow during their tour of England. Keshav Maharaj, the left-arm spinner, has been ruled out of the first T20I in Cardiff due to a groin strain. This adds to the list of unavailable players, which already includes Lungi Ngidi and David Miller. Ngidi is out of the entire T20I series with a hamstring injury and will return home. He is aiming to recover in time for the World Test Championship series in Pakistan. Nandre Burger has been drafted into the squad as a replacement. David Miller was previously ruled out due to a hamstring injury suffered in the Hundred. There is no announcement on who will replace him. Despite these setbacks, there are positive developments, as Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, and Lizaad Williams all returned to play. Rabada, who was recovering from an ankle injury, bowled in the first over. Jansen, following thumb surgery, bowled two overs, while Williams, who had knee surgery, was included in the squad but did not bowl.
