Washington Sundar has urged the Indian cricket team to stay positive amidst their difficulties in the second Test against South Africa. India conceded a substantial 314-run deficit after being bowled out for 201, a performance Sundar described as an execution that “didn’t go the way we wanted.” He pointed out that while Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel’s aggressive shots led to their dismissals, such attempts can be successful on different occasions. “We just have to back their plans and their skill sets as well,” Sundar stated during the post-day media interaction. Sundar himself contributed a valuable 48, batting lower down the order at number eight, a position he happily accepts as part of a team strategy. He believes the team’s approach to batting in the innings wasn’t dictated by a specific score or run rate, especially when facing a formidable bowling unit. The focus, he explained, was on playing a typical Test innings, with future plans to be formulated based on the evolving match situation.
