The Asia Cup encounter between India and Pakistan was marred by contentious events. Following India’s win, the team chose not to shake hands with Pakistan, displaying their stance. Furthermore, they declined to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC chairman, PCB chief, and a Pakistani minister, who has previously made anti-India comments.
Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, criticized Naqvi’s behavior during the awards ceremony, calling it “unsportsmanlike.” He confirmed that India would formally protest the incident at the upcoming ICC conference in Dubai. Saikia stated that the BCCI would take action against such conduct. India refused to receive the trophy from Naqvi due to the political tensions, yet they were surprised when he took away the trophy and medals. The BCCI intends to raise strong objections regarding the ACC chairperson’s actions at the next ICC conference scheduled for November in Dubai. On the field, Tilak Varma’s notable unbeaten score of 69 off 53 balls and Rinku Singh’s decisive boundary led India to claim their ninth Asia Cup title, even without the trophy being presented.
