Unexpected player illness has necessitated major squad adjustments for Sri Lanka’s participation in the T20I tri-series hosted by Pakistan. The tournament, set to kick off on November 18 in Rawalpindi, will see Sri Lanka without their regular captain, Charith Asalanka, and key pacer Asitha Fernando, both of whom are suffering from illness. Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that these players will be returning home to focus on their recovery, ensuring they are fit for upcoming international duties.
In response to these withdrawals, experienced all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been appointed to lead the Sri Lankan contingent for the tri-series. This marks a return to the captaincy for Shanaka. Additionally, the squad has been bolstered by the inclusion of Pavan Rathnayake, a young batter who recently made his One Day International debut. The series provides a vital platform for Sri Lanka to regroup and prepare for the T20 World Cup, especially following their recent ODI series loss to Pakistan.
