Nasser Hussain has joined Ravi Shastri in expressing concerns about the Indian team’s fielding performance. He pointed out that India’s fielding shortcomings allowed England to stay in the game, particularly during the crucial final session of Day 3. Hussain believed that India’s strong batting display should have put England under more pressure, but fielding errors prevented this.
Fielding mistakes by India provided opportunities to England’s batsmen, including Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook, over Days 2 and 3. England eventually amassed 465 runs, giving India a lead of only six runs.
“I think India will be a little disappointed,” Hussain commented, adding, “They had a collapse of 7-41 in their innings and the England score should then have been a lot less.”
He emphasized the significance of the final session, stating, “That last little session tonight was vital for them in that they didn’t let England back into the game even more.”
On Day 3, Bumrah’s five-wicket haul (5/83) helped restrict England to 465, with India holding a six-run lead. Ollie Pope and Harry Brook scored 106 and 99, respectively. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj took three and two wickets for India. Despite an early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal in their second innings, a solid partnership between KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan helped India reach 90 for 2, extending their lead to 96 runs by the end of the day.
