The jubilant mood following India Women’s maiden ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory is palpable across the nation. However, concrete plans for a public celebration, such as a victory parade, are yet to be confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia provided an update, stating that all formal celebrations are on hold pending the return of senior officials from upcoming ICC meetings in Dubai. “Once we return, we will plan accordingly,” Saikia stated, indicating that discussions about a parade or felicitation event will take place after November 7th. The delegation’s attendance at the ICC meetings, running from November 4th to 7th, takes precedence. A significant point of discussion for the BCCI at these meetings will also be the delayed handover of the Asia Cup trophy to the Indian women’s team. The historic final, held on November 2nd at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, saw India clinch the coveted title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs. The Indian team batted first, setting a challenging target of 298 for 7. This impressive score was largely thanks to an outstanding 87 from Shafali Verma, who played a vital role after being brought in as an injury replacement. Key contributions also came from Smriti Mandhana (45), Deepti Sharma (52), and a rapid 34 from Richa Ghosh. South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, fought valiantly with a century, but the Indian bowling attack, led by Deepti Sharma’s stellar 5/39, ultimately secured the memorable win. The country eagerly awaits the official acknowledgment of this monumental achievement, celebrating a moment that promises to inspire future generations of female cricketers.
