Harry Brook, the world’s number two Test batter, ended his innings one run short of a century against India in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy 2025. In the Headingley Test, after hitting a six off Prasidh Krishna, Brook was caught attempting a repeat shot, with Shardul Thakur taking the catch. This moment came after Brook had been dropped twice by India, including a missed catch by Rishabh Pant. Statistics show Brook has been dropped 13 times in the last 12 months.
Brook’s near-century added him to a list of unlucky England batters dismissed on 99. The last time an England batter failed to reach a century was Jonny Bairstow, back in 2017 against South Africa. Brook is only the third batter to be dismissed for 99 at Headingley.
India finished England’s innings at 465 and started their second innings with only a 6-run lead. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hit a century in the first innings, didn’t score many runs in the second. KL Rahul made a half-century, while Shubman Gill did not perform well in the second innings.
