A pre-match practice session led by Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali for Shimron Hetmyer turned out to be unsuccessful, with the batsman failing to perform as hoped. This incident marks the third instance of such an outcome for the team in the ongoing CPL 2025 tournament. Representing the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Hetmyer’s team lost to St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots by a narrow margin of 5 runs, adding to their list of defeats in the competition.
Footage from before the Caribbean Premier League match shows Guyana’s President, Irfaan Ali, providing batting practice to Shimron Hetmyer. The President was seen throwing balls to Hetmyer, while also sharing some batting tips with him.
Following the practice session, Hetmyer’s performance in the match was far from satisfactory. Despite the practice session led by the President, Hetmyer failed to deliver a strong performance. He was dismissed after scoring only 9 runs. The St. Kitts bowler, Naseem Shah, bowled him out.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors also faced a defeat, losing by 5 runs, mirroring Hetmyer’s poor form. St. Kitts and Patriots, batting first, scored 149 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. In response, Guyana managed to score only 144 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, resulting in a loss.
This defeat marks the third loss for Guyana in the 7 matches played during CPL 2025. On the other hand, St. Kitts secured their third win in the 9 matches played.
