Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain and current BCCI president, shared his opinion on Virat Kohli’s absence from the recent Test series against England. Ganguly believes that Kohli’s presence would have been an advantage for the Indian team, particularly in terms of scoring runs. Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket just before the England tour surprised Ganguly, who had anticipated that Kohli would continue playing due to his fitness. Ganguly stated that Kohli would have performed well if he were in the squad.
Ganguly said, “As a player, you understand where he stands at the moment. Just look at Virat. I know he didn’t have the best five years in Test cricket but champions like him rediscover. And I guarantee that if he was on this tour of England, he would have scored runs. But he felt it was time to go.”
Virat Kohli’s Test career is marked by significant achievements. In 123 Test innings, he has amassed 9230 runs, averaging 46.85 with a strike rate of 55.57. His highest score is an unbeaten 254. Kohli has 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, reflecting his consistency and skill against challenging bowling attacks.
