The Australia A cricket team, engaged in a series of ODIs against India A, faced an unexpected health scare in Kanpur. Several Australian players reported falling ill with symptoms of abdominal pain and infections. The situation prompted swift action, including the hospitalization of bowler Henry Thornton. The incident has drawn the attention of the BCCI, with Vice President Rajeev Shukla providing comments.
The players’ health issues were suspected to be related to food consumed at the hotel. Henry Thornton received medical care for two days and has since recovered. The other affected players also underwent hospital check-ups before being released. The Landmark Hotel in Kanpur, the accommodation for the Australian team, is the focus of the investigation as they provided the food. The food department has initiated an investigation by collecting samples from the hotel.
Rajeev Shukla mentioned that the Landmark Hotel is a reputable establishment and that if the food had been the cause, more players would likely have been affected. He speculated that the illness might have originated elsewhere. The hotel management has proposed that the change in weather could be the cause of the players’ sickness rather than the food.
The ongoing ODI series between India A and Australia A is currently level at 1-1. Earlier, the two teams competed in a pair of unofficial test matches, which India A won 1-0.
