Aaron Finch, the recently retired Australian captain, believes India made a strategic error by omitting Arshdeep Singh from their lineup in the second T20I against Australia. After India’s defeat in Melbourne, Finch asserted that the team management would be wise to bring the left-arm seamer back for the third match in Hobart. He elaborated on the dynamics of T20 batting, suggesting that playing with too many specialist batsmen can lead to a lack of accountability. Finch stated, “One thing I’ve learned about T20 cricket, when you go in with too many batters, sometimes the responsibility gets diluted.” He feels that this approach is counterproductive, especially as India gears up for the World Cup. Regarding the bowling, Finch acknowledged a decent start from Jasprit Bumrah but noted that the bowlers lacked a defendable total. “It wasn’t a massive shortfall in target, but a few extra runs could have made things very interesting,” he commented. While praising Abhishek Sharma’s impressive 68, Finch also identified a need for better strike rotation, particularly when he was partnered with lower-order batsmen like Harshit Rana. He observed that the lower order often struggles with singles and doubles, impacting the overall momentum of the innings.
