October 2nd was a day of remarkable achievement for Bangladesh cricket. The day saw the team secure two victories, one against Pakistan and another against Afghanistan. These wins were particularly noteworthy, as they happened on the same day, albeit in different formats and locations. The first victory came in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, where the Bangladesh women’s team defeated Pakistan in Colombo. The second victory was achieved by the Bangladesh men’s team in the first T20 match of the series against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
The women’s team’s win against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup set the stage for a day of success. The men’s team then mirrored this performance, securing a win in the T20 series opener by chasing down the target, winning with 7 wickets in hand and 13 balls remaining.
In the opening T20 match, Afghanistan batted first and scored 151 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Bangladesh, aiming for 152, began strongly with an opening partnership that suggested an easy victory. The opening batsmen put up 109 runs together, with both scoring half-centuries. Tanzid Hasan scored 51 runs off 37 balls, and Parvez Hossain Emon scored 54 runs off 37 balls.
However, after the opening partnership ended, Bangladesh experienced a dramatic collapse, losing 6 wickets for just 9 runs. Rashid Khan played a crucial role in this collapse, with the Afghan captain taking 4 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs.
Despite the dramatic loss of wickets, Nurul Hasan and Rishad Hossain stabilized the innings, securing the win for their team. Nurul Hasan remained unbeaten with 23 runs, and Rishad Hossain scored 14 runs. Parvez Hossain Emon was declared the man of the match for his 54-run performance, which helped Bangladesh lead 1-0 in the 3-match T20 series.
