The Madras High Court has moved forward with a 10-year-old defamation case initiated by MS Dhoni. The case involves allegations related to the IPL spot-fixing scandal. Dhoni is seeking ₹100 crore in damages from various entities, including media outlets, a journalist, and a retired IPS officer, G. Sampath Kumar. The accusations concern their involvement in allegedly linking Dhoni to the IPL betting scandal. Justice C.V. Karthikeyan has appointed an advocate commissioner who will oversee the recording of Dhoni’s testimony at a convenient location in Chennai. This measure was taken to avoid potential disruptions that Dhoni’s presence might cause due to his celebrity status. Dhoni has submitted an affidavit expressing his willingness to proceed with the hearing of the defamation suit, which has been pending since 2014.
