Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, is uncertain for the Ashes series due to a back injury. He hopes to play in all five Tests against England later this year but acknowledges that his involvement hinges on his recovery. The 32-year-old fast bowler’s injury has kept him out of the upcoming tours of New Zealand and India in October. Cummins has been unable to bowl competitively since the West Indies Test series. Speaking to reporters, Cummins shared his aspiration to lead Australia during the Ashes. However, he pointed out that a decision would be made closer to the series. He has battled chronic back problems throughout his career, including a major issue in 2018 that led to an extended absence. Cummins indicated he would be assessing his condition. He is currently focused on maintaining his fitness through gym work and will gradually increase his activity in preparation for the Ashes. The first Ashes Test is set to begin in Perth on November 21. Australia last retained the Ashes in England in 2023 after the series concluded in a 2-2 draw. In the 2021-22 home series, Australia won 4-0, with Cummins taking 21 wickets.
