Football fans in India are on the verge of potentially experiencing a landmark event this October. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo might be visiting India for the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) 2025–26. His team, Al Nassr, is slated to play FC Goa on October 22nd. The match is projected to be one of the most prominent games ever played in the country. Al Nassr has included Ronaldo in their lineup of 12 international players for the ACL2, alongside other prominent names like Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, and Kingsley Coman. Aymeric Laporte will not be participating in the competition, as he has rejoined Athletic Club in Spain. FC Goa is in a group with Al Nassr, Al Zawraa (Iraq), and Istiklol (Tajikistan). Their group stage campaign starts against Al Zawraa on September 17th in Fatorda, followed by a match against Istiklol on October 1st. The most anticipated match is their home game against Al Nassr on October 22nd. Despite Ronaldo’s inclusion in the team, there is uncertainty surrounding his participation in the trip. His participation in ACL2 away games has been limited in the past. Recently, Ronaldo extended his commitment to Al Nassr until 2027, which put an end to reports of a move to the MLS. This move confirms his continued involvement with Saudi football’s international ambitions. FC Goa qualified for the ACL2 by winning the Kalinga Super Cup, marking their return to the continental stage since their first appearance in the AFC Champions League in 2021. They secured their place by overcoming Al Seeb (Oman) with a score of 2-1 in a closely contested match. With Mohun Bagan Super Giant also participating and the potential presence of Ronaldo, this ACL2 season is set to become a defining moment for Indian football.
