The ICC has confirmed a series of significant rule changes affecting all formats of cricket. Some updates are already in effect, while those specific to white-ball cricket will be implemented from July 2nd.
One notable change is the implementation of a stop clock in Test matches, following its use in white-ball formats. The fielding team must begin the next over within 60 seconds. Penalties include warnings and a five-run penalty for repeated delays.
Umpires have been granted sole authority to change the ball, with the removal of the option for teams to request ball changes. DRS protocols have been updated to address situations where a batter is initially given out caught behind. The TV umpire will now assess the LBW based on ball-tracking.
In cases where there are multiple appeals, the TV umpire will assess them chronologically. For no-balls, the fairness of the catch will still be evaluated by the third umpire. Stricter sanctions will be implemented for deliberate short runs, allowing the fielding side to choose the next batter and a 5-run penalty for the batting team.
Like-for-like substitutions will be allowed in first-class matches for external injuries.
