The T20 series between Australia and South Africa saw Australia emerge victorious with a 2-1 scoreline. South Africa’s Dewald Brevis, however, stood out as the series’ top run-scorer, drawing widespread acclaim for his aggressive batting style. He was unable to break Virat Kohli’s record from a past series. In the recent series, Brevis amassed 180 runs, falling short of Kohli’s mark by 20 runs.
Virat Kohli, during a 2016 three-match T20 series in Australia, scored 199 runs. His performance included an unbeaten 90 in the first match, which India won by 37 runs. He followed this up with an unbeaten 59 in the second T20, another victory for India. In the final match in Sydney, Kohli scored 50 runs, completing a 3-0 series sweep for India.
In the 2025 series against Australia, Brevis accumulated 180 runs across three matches. His first match yielded only two runs, but he exploded in the second T20 with an unbeaten century, scoring 125 runs. He followed that up with a score of 53 runs in the third match. Brevis’s efforts were not enough to surpass Kohli’s record, coming up short by just 20 runs.
Brevis did lead in terms of sixes hit in the year 2025, smashing 79 sixes in T20 cricket. Following him were Mitchell Owen of Australia and Sahibzada Farhan of Pakistan, both with 77 sixes each.
