Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a key player in the Indian cricket team, has spoken in defense of Jasprit Bumrah’s approach to workload management, emphasizing the challenges fast bowlers face. This comes after criticism regarding Bumrah’s participation in the recent England Test series. Critics, including former cricketers, questioned his decision to miss some matches.
Before the series, it was decided Bumrah would play three out of five Tests. Despite this pre-arranged plan, he was still criticized for his absence in the final match. India ended up losing all the games he participated in. Bhuvneshwar, in an interview, stated that it’s not feasible to expect Bumrah to play every match due to the physical and mental demands.
Bhuvneshwar acknowledged Bumrah’s long career and unique bowling action as factors in needing workload management. He believes that if selectors are comfortable with Bumrah’s contributions in fewer games, it should be acceptable. Bumrah is expected to be back in action for the Asia Cup T20 in September. His availability for the home Test series in 2025-26 is yet to be determined.
