The Indian women’s cricket team has achieved a landmark victory, clinching the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup after a dominant performance against South Africa in the final held in Navi Mumbai. This historic triumph ends a long wait for a major ICC silverware for the Women in Blue, who had previously been runners-up in 2005 and 2017. The euphoria of this win is expected to propel women’s cricket in India to new heights.
With the major hurdle cleared, captain Harmanpreet Kaur emphasized the team’s desire for sustained success. “Now our next plan is to make it a habit,” Kaur remarked, highlighting the team’s forward-looking approach. The schedule for the coming years indicates a packed calendar for the victorious squad.
Their immediate post-World Cup engagement will be a multi-format tour of Australia in early 2026. From February 15 to March 9, India will compete in three T20Is, three ODIs, and a solitary Test match.
Post-Australia, the team will participate in the domestic Women’s Premier League, followed by a tour of England for a three-match T20I series scheduled between May 28 and June 2, 2026.
The next ICC global event for the Women in Blue will be the T20 World Cup, also hosted in England. The tournament is slated to begin on June 12, 2026, with the final match to be played at the iconic Lord’s ground on July 5. This tournament presents the perfect opportunity for India to build on their ODI World Cup success and aim for another international title.
