Assam’s team secured victory in the 64th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, specifically in the Girls Under 17 category, after a compelling final match. The team defeated West Bengal with a score of 3-1. The tournament featured 31 exciting matches, following the start of the Girls category on August 19th. In the final, Betkuchi High School from Assam defeated Nandaizar Adivasi Pashili High School of West Bengal to win the prestigious title. While West Bengal had opportunities, they failed to convert them into goals. Assam, on the other hand, adopted effective offensive and defensive strategies. Assam scored three goals. Milina Brahma scored in the 24th minute, Sayshree Sangma scored the first goal in the 12th minute, and Mari Mech added another in the 29th minute, giving Assam a 3-1 lead. Neha Baroi scored the only goal for Bengal in the 21st minute. The closing ceremony was attended by Air Marshal Narmadeshwar Tiwari, the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, as the Chief Guest. Navdeep Singh, an Arjuna Awardee, Paralympic gold medalist, para-athlete, and javelin thrower, was a guest of honor. The event included a notable award ceremony. The day began with a performance by the Air Warrior Drill Team, followed by a presentation from students of the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute. The Subroto Cup includes three categories: Under-17 Girls, Under-15 Boys, and Under-17 Boys. 200 matches will be completed by September 25th. Scouts will then choose players for training in Germany through the News9 Indian Tigers and Tigresses talent hunt by TV9 Network. This season’s matches focused on the girls’ category. The tournament will shift to Bengaluru for the Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 matches from September 2-11. Following that, the Junior Boys Under-17 matches will be held in Delhi. Navdeep Singh, the Indian para-athlete and javelin thrower who won a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Paralympics, acknowledged the News9 Tigers and Tigresses football talent hunt initiative by the TV9 Network. He recognized that this initiative offers international exposure for Indian players, helping them learn from global coaches. Singh mentioned the differences in the game play of international and Indian players and how such initiatives can help bridge the gap. He further stated that the Subroto Cup is a great platform for aspiring footballers. He emphasized the need for more domestic tournaments to discover talent for the 2036 Olympics. Group Captain Gajanan Yadav, the Honorary Secretary of the Subroto Cup, praised the News9 Indian Tigers and Tigresses football talent hunt initiative, hoping that TV9 Network’s support would continue in the future.
