A peculiar situation has emerged following India’s Asia Cup 2025 victory, with the team still awaiting their trophy 34 days after the final. Sources reveal that the championship silverware has been held by ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi since the post-match ceremony. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has voiced his disappointment, stating that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally requested the trophy from Naqvi approximately ten days ago, without success.
The controversy stems from the presentation ceremony where Indian players, reportedly uncomfortable receiving the trophy from Naqvi, opted not to accept it. Consequently, the team celebrated their win without the physical prize. Naqvi had previously suggested that the trophy could be retrieved from the ACC headquarters in Dubai, while also stating his wish to be the one to hand it over.
Saikia informed the press that the trophy is expected to be dispatched to the BCCI office in Mumbai soon. He also confirmed that the BCCI is ready to take up the matter at the ICC’s forthcoming meeting if the trophy remains undelivered. The BCCI is confident that the trophy will be returned to India, highlighting that all match results and the championship win are officially documented. The focus remains on resolving this unusual delay and ensuring the trophy reaches its rightful owners.
