The 2025 Asia Cup final in Dubai concluded with India defeating Pakistan in a tight match, securing a five-wicket victory. However, the post-match ceremony was marred by controversy. The Indian team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, celebrated their win without the trophy. The Indian players reportedly declined to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB and Pakistan’s interior minister, who also heads the ACC. Delays occurred as the Pakistan team arrived late. The initial plan was for Khalid Al Zarooni, Vice-Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, to present the trophy. Instead, commentator Simon Doull announced that India would not be accepting it. Naqvi was later seen leaving the venue. Suryakumar Yadav, speaking to The Indian Express, emphasized that his team was not at fault for any delay and asserted that the team independently decided to skip the trophy presentation, ruling out any influence from the BCCI. He stated, ‘We didn’t close the door and sit inside the dressing room…We didn’t make anyone wait for the presentation ceremony…They ran away with the trophy…I saw them talking on stage and I don’t know the details of their chat…And then we saw someone who was their representative taking the trophy and running away.’
