The Indian selectors are on the verge of announcing the squad for the Asia Cup 2025, with a meeting planned for August 19. Major selection decisions are looming, particularly concerning the inclusion of key players. Despite their recent strong showings, both Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj are in danger of being excluded from the team. Shreyas Iyer’s place in the squad also appears precarious. The selection committee is reportedly weighing Shreyas Iyer against Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, and Rinku Singh. Furthermore, there is a strong possibility that Mohammed Siraj will not be selected, despite his top performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, with Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Prasidh Krishna being considered as alternatives. Shreyas Iyer, who led Punjab Kings to the IPL final in 2025 and scored 604 runs, last played a T20 for India in December 2023. Discussions about including Shubman Gill have led to considering various scenarios, but none of them favored Gill. The current opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are likely to retain their spots. The possibility of replacing Tilak Varma was also discussed, but ruled out due to his form and T20I ranking. Similarly, replacing Gill with Yashasvi Jaiswal, a player from the 2024 T20 World Cup team, was also turned down.
